Tom Barron
Born in Glasgow, Tom joined the army as a boy soldier, aged 15. He subsequently saw service in Germany, Cyprus (United Nations), Singapore, Malaya and Borneo, where he saw active service with the Royal Corps of Transport (Air Despatch). He served 27 years with the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, serving in many training and operational roles. He headed the force's interview technique team.

Tom has had a number of articles published, most notably in the Daily Telegraph and an exclusive in the Daily Mail. He is the author of the Special Constables' Manual and heads Checkmate Publishing. Since retiring from the lecturing circuit where Tom pioneered and taught the Checkmate crammer courses for many years, he now writes and publishes the best-selling Barron's 'Made Simple!' series of Part I crammer books as well as narrating the Checkmate audio crammer course on CD.

Julianna Mitchell LLB (Hons), BCL, Barrister
Julianna is a Barrister with Chambers in Central London. She has three first-class degrees in law including an LLB (Hons) gained at the University of Birmingham in 1992 where she came top of her year having gained some of the highest marks ever awarded by the Law Faculty in a number of papers. After leaving Birmingham she studied law at the University of Oxford (1993) and went on to obtain a BCL at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. In 1994 she took her bar examinations at Lincoln's Inn and once again, was top of her year. She was Student of the Year (1994) and Sunley Scholar. She is the co-author of the 'Part I Promotion Crammer for Sergeants and Inspectors' published by Jane's Police Review and now in its eleventh edition (2009).

Julianna scripts and narrates the Checkmate audio crammer course on CD. Since 2001, Julianna has taught the law from the Sergeants' and Inspectors' Part I syllabus to thousands of police officers from every police force in England and Wales and continues to do so with the successful Checkmate Part I crammer courses.
